The newest must have watch for the all so populat geeks

The newest must have watch for the all so populat geeks, comes from Tokyoflash, a Japanese brand.
The watches name is Infectious, probable because of the bacteria lookalike pattern. The timepiece features a unique pulsating three color LED display - once again with the characteristic hard-to-tell-the-time look. So, this is an accessory for all of you who have plenty time...on your hand. But is can also be a plus, for those moments you just feel like being a big - outrageous show off.

Featuring a creatively designed full face mirrored lens and an innovative way to view time, no one is immune to Infection. Finished with a matching leather band and stainless steel clasp. Manufactured in a smart new case, Infection is ergonomically designed to neatly fit the contours of your wrist, the tapered edges providing a smooth transition between the case and lens. So, just in case you didn't get how do you read the time on the Infection (this sound stupid, I know...just bear with me), here is a simple sketch that will give you all the information you need.

It has twenty seven multi-colored LEDs pulsate and move like cells across the curved face to present the time from beneath the attractive mirrored mineral crystal lens. Twelve red LEDs indicate hours, eleven yellow LEDs represent the progression of time in groups of five minutes and four green LEDs show single minutes. A single touch of the upper button animates the LEDs, a single touch of the lower button shows the time immediately.

Infection is about $135 USD, which is pretty expensive, considering you usually get it for free. OK, I just have to say it: BAD name idea!!! But I love Tokyoflash, with all it's geeky stuff!

The woman who forgot her life after being put into coma

She was in a coma for weeks and suffered brain damage. But brave Liz Sykes survived and vowed to fight back. Her remarkable story began in 2008 as she was driving the familiar short route to work in Golcar from her home at the time in Linthwaite. Suddenly her life was turned upside down when she became totally disorientated. She did not know where she was or how to get to work. A week later the 23-year-old was struck down by a series of violent and prolonged seizures. Her partner Shelton rushed her to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and she spent many days there while doctors tried to diagnose her illness. Doctors then took the drastic step of inducing Liz into a three-week coma to try and save her life.

She was eventually diagnosed with encephalitis, the illness causes inflammation of the brain and is caused by a virus, infection or mosquito bite. When Liz awoke from the coma, her memory had been totally wiped. She could no longer do the simplest of tasks – even walking and talking had to be relearned. She spent 11 months in special centres in Leeds and York alongside other victims of brain damage, including serving police officers and soldiers from Afghanistan. Liz still suffers from some short-term memory loss and lacks confidence in certain areas, but her recovery steps have won her a nomination for Most Determined Learner in the Kirklees Community Adult Learning Awards.(Link)

Death Stalker Scorpion

Contrarily to the popular belief most of the scorpions are relatively harmless to humans as stings produce only local effects (pain, numbness or swelling). However, the Death Starker Scorpion is highly dangerous species because its venom is a powerful cocktail of neurotoxins which causes an intense and unbearable pain, then fever, followed by coma, convulsions, paralysis and death. Fortunately, while a sting from this scorpion is extremely painful, it would be unlikely to kill a healthy, adult human. Young children, the old, or infirm (with a heart condition) are at the biggest risk.

Death stalker scorpions are spread in North Africa and Middle East.

King Cobra

The King Cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) is the world’s longest venomous snake – growing up to 5.6 m (18.5 ft) in length. Ophiophagus, literally means “snake-eater” as it eats other snakes. One single bite of this deadly snake can easily kill a human. This snake is even capable of killing a full-grown Asian Elephant within 3 hours if the larger animal is bitten in a vulnerable area such as the trunk.

It’s venom is not as toxic as other venomous snakes, but King Cobra is capable of injecting 5 times more venom than black mamba and can result in mortality up to 5 times faster than that of the black mamba. It is quite widespread, ranging across South and South-east Asia, living in dense highland forests.

World's Oldest McDonald's Worker

Grandfather Bill Dudley is Britain's oldest McDonald's worker – aged 85. He says the staff are like family and he wouldn't be without his part-time job. Bill, a retired taxi driver, greets customers and wipes tables at the fast food outlet in Mold, Clwyd.

He says he's fighting fit for his six-hour shifts every Wednesday and Thursday, despite a pacemaker, angina and a new knee. ‘Sitting at home can get boring, I'm not a drinker and my wife won't let me touch the garden, because she does all that,' the former taxi driver said. 'A lot of the customers don't believe I'm 85. They look at me and think I'm in my 60s. I just like the job. I like talking to people and meeting people. That's why I loved the taxi work – I like solving their problems. A lot of the people working here are much younger than me, like a whole different generation, but they feel like family.' (Link | Via)

Fossil find shows life on Mars possible

Scientists have found Earth's oldest fossils in Australia and say their microscopic discovery is convincing evidence that cells and bacteria were able to thrive in an oxygen-free world more than 3.4 billion years ago.

The finding suggests early life was sulphur-based - living off and metabolizing sulphur rather than oxygen for energy - and supports the idea that similar life forms could exist on other planets where oxygen levels are low or non-existent.

A natural defense mechanism used by cells in the gut to neutralize harmful toxins may lead to new ways to fight Clostridium difficile, the most common cause of hospital-acquired bacterial infections, researchers said on Sunday. Tests of an experimental compound that mimics this defense mechanism that has shown promise in the lab and in mouse studies, and the researchers say they are already planning human clinical trials. The Croatian girl who awoke from coma speaking fluent German

A teenager went into a coma and awoke speaking another language. The case of Sandra Ralic, 13, has doctors baffled. She spoke Croatian before, but since waking up from her 24 hour coma, she has been unable to speak Croatian, but is able to communicate perfectly in German.

Her parents say she had only just started studying German at her school in Knin, southern Croatia. Local hospital chief Dujomir Marasovic said: "We are still trying to find out what caused the coma and why she has apparently forgotten how to speak Croatian."  (Link)

Astronomers discover planet made of diamond

Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard. The new planet is far denser than any other known so far and consists largely of carbon. Because it is so dense, scientists calculate the carbon must be crystalline, so a large part of this strange world will effectively be diamond. The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon -- i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun," said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

Lying 4,000 light years away, or around an eighth of the way toward the center of the Milky Way from the Earth, the planet is probably the remnant of a once-massive star that has lost its outer layers to the so-called pulsar star it orbits.Pulsars are tiny, dead neutron stars that are only around 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) in diameter and spin hundreds of times a second, emitting beams of radiation.

In the case of pulsar J1719-1438, the beams regularly sweep the Earth and have been monitored by telescopes in Australia, Britain and Hawaii, allowing astronomers to detect modulations due to the gravitational pull of its unseen companion planet. The measurements suggest the planet, which orbits its star every two hours and 10 minutes, has slightly more mass than Jupiter but is 20 times as dense, Bailes and colleagues reported in the journal Science on Thursday.

In addition to carbon, the new planet is also likely to contain oxygen, which may be more prevalent at the surface and is probably increasingly rare toward the carbon-rich center. Its high density suggests the lighter elements of hydrogen and helium, which are the main constituents of gas giants like Jupiter, are not present.Just what this weird diamond world is actually like close up, however, is a mystery.

"In terms of what it would look like, I don't know I could even speculate," said Ben Stappers of the University of Manchester. "I don't imagine that a picture of a very shiny object is what we're looking at here." (Reuters)

Captive crocodile recognised as world's largest

SYDNEY: A crocodile which measures 18 feet in length has been officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest crocodile in captivity.

The fearsome croc, known as Cassius is a resident at Marineland Melanesia on Green Island off the coast of Cairns (northern Queensland, Australia). The crocodile, believed to be over 100 years old has been in captivity since it was brought to the marine park back in 1987, having been captured in the wild near to Darwin a few years earlier.

It was captured as it had attacked a number of boats in the Darwin area and it was thought to be too big and dangerous to be left at large.

World’s Smallest Dog

At 1.4 pounds and 4.9 inches tall, Ducky, a yappy short-coat Chihuahua from Charlton (Massachusetts, USA), holds the Guinness World Record for the world's smallest living dog (by height). Ducky succeeds Danka Kordak of Slovakia, a Chihuahua who measured 5.4 inches tall. The smallest dog ever, according to Guinness, was a dwarf Yorkshire terrier who stood 2.8 inches tall.

Ultimate Car That Can Drive Everywhere

Time for the future! Now the car which we only saw in science-fictions is about to hit the planet. An inventor has come up with a new design for a car that will drive on roads, sand, ice – and even water. The all-terrain vehicle, which has a top speed of 62mph and works like a hovercraft, can move seamlessly between different surfaces.

Female designer Zhang Yuhan, 21, created the amazing machine – called the Volkswagen Aqua – for a competition sponsored by the German car manufacturer. The vehicle’s sleek sportscar-like design incorporates four high-powered fans and integrated airbags that inflate to lift it from the ground.

A large windscreen stretches above the front seats to give a panoramic view of the landscape ahead. You enter and exit the car from a hatch at the rear of the car.Based on technology that is currently available, the Aqua uses a hydrogen fuel cell to power two motors – with zero carbon emissions.

One motor inflates the skirt around the vehicle to make it hover, while the second drives it forwards and controls its direction. There is no better form of transport than an air cushion vehicle because it travels equally well over land, ice, and water,’ said Ms Yuhan.

The mechanic design graduate, from China, added: ‘I hope Aqua will become an affordable supercar that is available to the general public one day.’The Xihua University student made the shortlist from the CDN China Car Award. The competition asked designers to come up with a ‘Chinese off-road vehicle’ with ‘go-anywhere’ capabilities.

Your Mom Can See You In Classroom

The appropriate term is ‘Big Mother’ rather than ‘Big Brother’ here.A nursery school is believed to be the first in the country to install internet-linked CCTV cameras to allow parents to keep an eye on their little ones.

Seven cameras at the Bright Futures Day Nursery in Clitheroe, Lancashire, will stream real-time moving pictures from playrooms and the garden. The video streams will be encrypted, protected by ‘multi-layered security measures’ and can only be accessed by parents with the correct passwords.

But critics say the monitoring is another step towards the surveillance society and warn the live streams are only as safe as the parents who have access to them.Daniel Hamilton, of privacy campaign group Big Brother Watch, said it was ‘sad’ the nursery had installed the equipment.

‘With each person in the UK being caught on CCTV an average of 300 times a day, it now appears that even young children can’t escape the surveillance state,’ he said.‘Of course parents want their children to be safe, but monitoring their every movement goes a step too far.’

The cameras, which go live on July 1 as part of a £40,000 refurbishment, will deliver colour images but no sound, streamed live to the NurseryCam website. The nursery says it will help parents feel more secure and allow them to ‘participate’ more in their children’s activities.Parents will even be able to log in using their smartphones.

‘Parents can check in on their children, and because there’s been nurseries in the news over safety concerns, it protects our staff with accusations,’ said nursery owner and manager Jasmine Cross.

Flying Car

It’s been cleared to take to the skies for more than a year – but that’s not much use when you’re supposed to be able to drive it, too.But now the flying car has at least been declared officially road legal.

It means the Terrafugia Transition could be in U.S. garages as early as next autumn, after two years of delays. It may not be the world’s first flying car, but its makers say it is the first to have wings that fold up automatically at the push of a button. It costs $200,000 – about the same price as a Ferrari – and can be reserved online for what Terrafugia describes as a ‘modest’ $10,000 deposit.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced the Transition, called a ‘roadable aircraft’ by its makers, can now be legally driven on America’s roads. It granted the vehicle special dispensations, which allow it to use airplane-style plastic windows instead of the safety glass usually used in cars, as it would be too heavy.

Russia to launch Space Hotel with intergalactic view

A Russian company has unveiled an ambitious plan to launch a 'space hotel' in orbit 217 miles up which would have huge windows for views of the Earth turning below.A five-day stay in the hotel, which would house seven guests in four cabins, would cost 100,000 pounds, on top of 500,000 pounds for journey, the Daily Mail reports.

Orbital Technologies, firm will construct the hotel, has claimed that it will be 'far more comfortable' than the International Space Station used by astronauts and cosmonauts. In the weightlessness of space, visitors can choose to have beds that are either vertical or horizontal.

Tourists, who will be accompanied by experienced crew, will dine on food prepared on Earth and sent up on the rocket, to be reheated in microwave ovens, the paper said. The freeze-dried tubes of nourishment given to astronauts would be replaced by delicacies such as braised veal cheeks with wild mushrooms, white bean puree, potato soup and plum compote.

Iced tea, mineral water and fruit juices will be available, but alcohol will be strictly prohibited.Toilets will use flowing air instead of water to move waste through the system.Waste water will be recycled, while the air will be filtered to remove odour and bacteria and then returned to the cabin.

A plan for the hotel to be used as an emergency bolthole for astronauts aboard the International Space Station if there is a crisis, rather than bringing them all the way back to Earth is alo underway, the paper said.

The hotel, or the Commercial Space Station is due to open by 2016.

World population will reach 7bn in 2011

The world population will reach seven billion later this year, with increases in the number of people in Africa off-setting birth rate drops elsewhere, according to a new French study published Thursday.

Looking much further ahead, the National Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) predicts a continuing rise in the overall population figures until the total stabilises somewhere between 9-10 billion worldwide by the end of the century. From six billion people, the figure estimated in 1999, the gap between the global birth and death rates has swiftly brought the total figure towards the next billion in just 12 years.

INED expects it to take a further 14 years to reach eight billion people before the figures start stabilising, according to the study which pulls together research carried out by the United Nations, the World Bank and several major national institutes. In historical terms the growth in the global population has been soaring since the 19th century.

"It has increased seven-fold over the last two hundred years, topping seven billion in 2011, and is expected to reach nine or 10 billion by the end of the 21st century," the report said.Just seven countries now account for half the world's population, and therefore their demographic shifts have a major effect. China tops the list with over 1.33 billion people, with another 1.17 billion in India.

The other five countries, in order, are the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan and Nigeria.
INED estimates that between now and 2050 India will become the most populous nation, with Beijing's one-child policy moderating the Chinese numbers. While the overall numbers continue to grow, the rate of increase is already dropping, according to INED, standing at 1.1 percent this year from two percent 50 years ago.

This is due to the total fertility rate per women dropping to 2.5 children, half of the figure recorded in 1950.
However regional differences are great, with an average of 4.7 children per woman in Africa compared with just 1.6 in Europe. (AFP)

Chinese Girl Offers Virginity For iPhone4

We are still trying to improve the health of this news.Business Insider is reporting that a Chinese teenager posted on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter, that she would trade her virginity in exchange for an iPhone 4.

Reports of the girl’s posting first surfaced last week in Biznewschina and the Korean Herald, which wrote that the girl posted a photo of herself along with basic personal

information, because it’s her “dream to own a iPhone 4 but her father won’t let her get one.”The post, which many believe to be fake or a cruel prank played on the girl, has been met with a negative response and considerable criticism. While it sounds unbelievable, this wouldn’t be the first case of a Chinese teen going to extreme lengths for the latest technology.

Earlier this month a 17-year-old high school student named Xiao Zheng reportedly sold one of his kidneys for 20,000 yaun (about $3,100) to purchase an iPad 2 tablet.

World's First Wheelchair Lift

Here is amazing Dmitry Bibikow who decided to make his own way after getting low answer from the council. He took matters into his own hands and built his own elevator. The result is truly uplifting. Now when he wants to get into or out of his fifth floor flat the 32-year-old from Voronezh heads outside.

Mr Bibikow, from Voronezh, south-western Russia, was badly injured after falling from a balcony but his determined spirit still drives him on.

‘When I bought the flat I had been told an elevator would be built,’ he said. ‘But after waiting six years I decided to take matters into my own hands.‘Living on the fifth floor without a lift was a nightmare because I couldn’t get in or out of the block without someone’s help. It was like being in a prison.’

Now the married father of one can get in and out in a few minutes.‘I used to do a lot of mountaineering before I had an accident which crippled me, so my arms are really strong and I can get from my flat to the ground and back up again before other people living on the same floor.’

Built with help from friends the project cost him just £450.Now Dmitry is waiting for land to become free so he can build a house.

Quoting a Russian proverb he said: ‘A man should be allowed to build a house, plant a tree and raise a son.’

Blind Snake

The genes of a newfound snake family suggest blind snakes lived on the island of Madagascar since, well, before it was an island.

The discovery is helping to decode how these rarely seen—and barely seeing, though not completely blind—snakes came to colonize much of the planet.

Growing to about a foot (30 centimeters) long, blind snakes act a lot like worms, burrowing under the surface of every continent except Antarctica. Unlike worms, though, blind snakes have backbones and tiny scales. (Link)

Yacht Made of Gold and Platinum

Built by a British designer this sea wonder cost £3billion, half of the yacht is covered in gold and is worth an estimated £3billion, is to set sail. The was built for a Malaysian businessman by British designer Stuart Hughes. It is 30.5m (100ft) long and is claimed to feature around 100,000kg of solid gold and platinum – making it worth a reported £3billion.

Its main sleeping quarter is adorned with platinum accents, including a wall feature made of stone from a meteor – and bone from a Tyrannosaurus Rex.The hull is also wrapped in a thin layer of gold, while precious metals were used to make the deck, dining area, rails and anchor. The British-designed yacht was made for a mystery Malaysian businessman and designer Stuart Hughes said it took him three years to complete.

The 40-year-old from Liverpool worked on the commission – called The History Supreme – with a team of eight people. ‘It was probably the most mammoth task ever,’ he said. ‘I’ve covered all sorts of things in gold but this has got to be my most ambitious project yet. This will never be topped.’

Mr Hughes, who has also used gold to customise other luxury goods like iPads and iPhones, added: ‘He wanted a plane doing as well but the thing would never take off if we did.‘So he said “can you do the yacht?” and I said we’ll give it a crack and then it was pretty much a case of “can you make this gold, can you make that gold?” We just did what we were told and are delighted with the result.’

The yacht, built in Italy, was completed in Malaysia about two weeks ago. ‘I believe it will be mostly in dry dock, it won’t be used, it is just for show,’ Mr Hughes said.According to the World Gold Council, some 165,600 tonnes had been mined at their last estimate in 2009, meaning that the craft has nearly one per cent of the world’s gold.

BlackBerry Messenger Being Used To Organize London Violence

While the police have blamed social-networking sites such as Twitter for fuelling the riots in London over the weekend, it now appears those involved may have in fact been using the BlackBerry Messenger or BBM service to organise the unrest.

A second night of unrest broke out across London last night, with violence erupting in areas such as Brixton and Islington, with the police confirming 100 people had now been arrested as a result of the rioting and 35 police officers injured in the violence.

Commentators and now the police have been quick to blame social-networking sites such as Twitter for providing a platform for those rioting to organise their actions.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Steve Kavanagh told BBC Radio 4′s Today on Monday: ‘Social media and other methods have been used to organise these levels of greed and criminality.’

Pictures: Damage in Brixton following riots

However, it is now also being claimed that those involved were in fact using Blackberry’s BBM messaging service instead.

As Jonathan Akwue points out on his The Urban Mashup blog, BBM messages appear to have been circulating since Thursday’s shooting of Mark Duggan by the police which sparked the beginning of the unrest on Saturday evening when a peaceful demonstration turned violent.

A simple Twitter search for ‘tottenham bbm’ confirms people were using the messaging service to spread information about the riots.

Akwue also highlights the fact BlackBerry messages are a lot less visible to the outside world and therefore much harder for the police to track.

Home secretary Theresa May has returned home from her summer holiday early to help coordinate the response to the London riots as prime minister David Cameron and mayor of London Boris Johnson remain on vacation. Source :

Putin 'discovers Greek urns' on scuba dive

Russia's hard man Prime Minister Vladimir Putin pulled on a wetsuit and went scuba diving at an ancient Greek Black Sea site in the latest populist stunt preceding next year's elections.

State news reports said he descended just two metres (6.6 feet) and "luckily" discovered two sixth century urns in full presence of the media, because the water was so clear.

Television footage showed two moss-covered vases with ear-like handles sitting neatly next to each other on top of the sandy bottom as Putin swam into view.

"Treasure!" a dripping wet Putin told reporters with a big grin. "They drank it all already," he added when asked if there was anything left in the jars.

Jaimi Tyrrell joined a troupe of stunt riders after completing her GCSEs and now tours the UK and Europe. The daredevil teen hits speeds of up to 45mph on the vertical 20ft high wall as she rides horizontally around the 32ft wide cylinder.

Performing under the name Jaimi Starr, she cannot wear a helmet as this would affect the drag and she must keep a constant speed to beat the gravity that would otherwise pull her down. Jaimi insisted she had no regrets about her career choice and said she was attracted by the 'exciting' lifestyle of a stunt bike rider. The teenager was introduced to the motorbike world by family friend Ken Fox who runs the Ken Fox Troupe stunt riding show.

NOTE: our reader Nathan H. wrote to let us know that: "The Fearless Flores Family has an 8 year old, and a 13 year old... its not the wall of death, but its the globe of death... they're on America's got talent".
